Using apps
Use the controls in Discover to find an app, try it in your browser, and switch between apps.
On this page: Find an app · Public trials · Preview mode · Use the app window · Save a copy · Get help opening an app.
Find and open an app
In Discover, use Search apps to search by name or description, or choose a category to narrow the list. If you see no results, clear the search and choose All.
Choose Open on a card. The app opens in the page and the list moves to the right. Wait for the app itself to appear before using it.
Public trials and saved copies
Important
Some apps offer a public trial without signing in; others ask you to sign in. An active Try reconnects to the same app and origin on reload. Only work saved by the app is retained; save important files before leaving. After a bounded Try ends, starting again creates a new Try under the usual limits. Apps that run in your browser have no preview time limit by default and show no countdown; apps that need managed compute keep a public trial with a countdown.
Saving to Library requires signing in. Depending on the listing, it may save a reference or require an import to create an owned Instance. Trial work does not automatically carry over.
Browse in Preview mode
Preview lets you use an app while keeping other apps within reach. On desktop, the app window is in the center and the list is on the right.
| View | Use it to |
|---|---|
| Grid | Compare app cards and decide what to open. |
| Preview | Operate an app and choose another app from the list beside it. |
- In Discover, choose Preview next to Grid, above the app cards.
- Choose Open on an app in the list. Choosing Open in Grid also switches to Preview automatically.
- Wait for the app to finish opening, then use it inside the app window.
Use Next below the app window to open another app, or Previous when available. The number between them shows your position in the current browsing list. A greyed-out navigation button is unavailable.
To return to the cards, choose Grid above the list or Back to grid below the app window. If opening an app fails, use the recovery buttons.
Use the app window
| Control | What happens |
|---|---|
| Expand at the top right of the app window | Gives the app more screen space. Available after the app opens. |
| Back to ato in the expanded window | Restores the app window and the list. |
| Back to grid below the app | Returns to the cards so you can choose another app. |
| Trial · … remaining | Shows the time left in the public trial. |
Keep your own copy
Choose the bookmark-shaped Save to Library control next to the app title. Follow Library and imports for sign-in, confirmation, and finding your copy.
If an app does not open
Opening app… and Preparing your app… mean the app is still starting. If Couldn't open this app appears:
- Read the failure reason. If a retry countdown is shown, wait for it to end before choosing Retry app. If another Try is running, return to it and stop it first.
- If it fails again, choose Back to app list and try another app. An app that has been removed cannot be retried.
Before retrying a trial, read Public trials and saved copies.
